Incredible footage was released recently on YouTube of a 4-foot-long blacktip shark being eaten in a single bite by a Goliath Grouper as it was being reeled toward a fisherman's boat, purportedly off Bonita Springs earlier this month.
As the shark is being reeled in, and orange presence becomes visible under the water and then, with lightning quickness, the massive grouper (formerly called the jewfish) snaps up the shark, shocking the people on the boat.

When I first saw the image of James Foley kneeling before a masked Islamic State member gripping a knife, I wanted to look away, forget, and go for a walk outside. I know the dragging uncertainty of living years and months in the power of someone who sees you as a lever against their enemy. I have a hint of the hot, tingling numbness one feelsrealizing this could be one'slast hour alive.
People who have lived through hostage situations know who the survivors are. We don't like to think about the ones who didn't make it while we are here, alive, free and moving on.
People who once were in these situations are almost always connected in some way to those who are in them now. I never knew James, but I'd been asked to weigh in on his case more than once. This happens with some regularity: Americans seem to be kidnapped more and more around the world, used as leverage against the US government. When someone like James goes missing, people scramble to do somethinganythingthey think will help. Many will have the sensible idea to contact others who have been in a similar situation. At the time, people thought James was being held by the Syrian government, and people thought a statement from myself, Sarah Shourd, and Josh Fattalheld as hostages by the Iranian government for two yearsmight grab the attention of someone in a position to put pressure on his captors.
I declined these requests, because I was afraid it could hurt rather than help; after all, Josh and I were convicted of espionage by Assad's allies in Iran.
James' family has had to endure many calculations like these. Like my family, they probably sometimes thought they should do more to try and convincehis captors to let him go. Other times they likely reasoned they should stay quiet, hoping that silence would give the hostage takers the opportunity to quietly release him. It's a hideous positionto be in.
James was kidnapped twice. The first time was in Libya, in 2011. Two weeks after he was released, he told an interviewer, "If reporters, if we don't try to get really close to what these guysmen, women, Americansand now, with this Arab revolution, young Arab menare experiencing, we don't understand the world, essentially." This is true. Without people like James on the ground, it is impossible to understand what is happening in places like Syria. And without understanding, how do we decide what to do (or not to do)?
James went to Syria to report on the most deadly war in the world. More than 9 million people have been driven out of their homes. The country is also the most dangerous place to be a journalistat least 66 have been killed there since 2010. Most of these were Syrian. Countless journalists are still missing. In the video claiming to show James being beheaded, ISIS showed another kidnapped American journalist, Stephen Sotloff. It warned that he, too, would be executed if the United States did not end its intervention in Iraq.
After the video of his execution was released, James' parents posted a comment on Facebook: "We have never been prouder of our son Jim. He gave his life trying to expose the world to the suffering of the Syrian people." Like the deaths of more than 100,000 Syrians, it's hard to find anything in James' death but tragedy. But in life he was braver than most of us, and committed to something much bigger than himself. That's what I want to remember.

The free magazine was meant as a gift from Lands End the retailer known for its conservative, sturdy clothing to its most valued customers.
But when the July issue of GQ landed in mailboxes across the country, the cover model was not wearing a monogrammed oxford or polar fleece. Instead, she was topless except for a strategically placed white flower lei. And some of the companys shoppers were none too pleased.
My 14-year-old son brought in the mail today & was quite disturbed & fascinated by a gift Lands End sent us a copy of GQ magazine with an absolutely OBSCENE cover!!!, wrote one mother on the companys Facebook page, which filled up with dozens of complaints. I am appalled that Lands End which I have always thought of as a wholesome, family-oriented company would be the one to expose my son to pornography!
Another said: We received your Lands End Bonus of GQ magazine this weekend, and we are absolutely horrified. How can buying something as family friendly as school uniforms lead to soft porn in the mailbox? Im thankful my son did not bring in the mail.
PhotoGQs racy cover of the model and actress Emily Ratajkowski offended some of Lands Ends customers.Snapped another, I ordered Christian private school childrens uniforms from your company and you sold my home address to a magazine company that peddles in soft porn for men???.
The GQ promotion was part of a yearlong deal that Lands End, based in Dodgeville, Wis., had struck with the magazines New York publisher, Cond Nast. The idea was to reward its best customers with magazines highlighting fashion and lifestyle topics. Previously, as part of the arrangement, the company had sent readers copies of other popular magazines like Self, Vogue and Glamour.
Such partnerships between retailers and magazines are hardly new, but have grown in recent years as magazines have been increasingly eager to find new distribution channels for their product in hopes of gaining new subscribers as fewer people buy print magazines.
But in this case, the promotion backfired, with GQs racy cover of the model and actress Emily Ratajkowski offending some of Lands Ends customers. By Wednesday, the negative reaction had grown so strong that the retailer issued a mea culpa to its shoppers.
I would like to start by extending my most sincere apologies, Edgar Huber, the chief executive of Lands End, wrote in an email. We are aware that you have received or will be receiving shortly the July issue of GQ magazine with a suggestive cover.
Mr. Huber explained that GQ, a mens magazine, was included as part of the subscription offer since we did not want to exclude our male customers. He also wrote, in bold letters, There are simply no excuses; this was a mistake.
Cond Nast has had a long relationship with advertisers who want to give their consumers gift subscriptions. Cond Nast has partnerships with many retailers that involve the gift of a subscription with purchase of their product, said Patricia Rockenwagner, a Cond Nast spokeswoman. How the programs are carried out and which of their customers receive subscriptions is entirely determined by them.
PhotoBy Wednesday, the negative reaction had grown so strong that Edgar Huber, the chief of Lands End, apologized to shoppers. Credit Brendan McDermid/ReutersTo make amends, Lands End said in its apology that it had switched its customers names from the GQ subscription list to subscriptions to Cond Nast Traveler. (The most recent cover of Traveler features a staircase in San Pietro on the Aeolian island of Panarea.)
A giveaway gone awry is the least of the magazine industrys problems. Circulation and newsstand sales have declined precipitously over the last decade. And to offset those declines, magazines are pushing into numerous new initiatives and partnerships.
For decades, Hearst Corporation has had ventures with television networks like HGTV Magazine and Food Network Magazine. Just this week, Cond Nast announced that it would work with an e-commerce platform called BeachMint to run Lucky Magazine and with Bravo on a new television series called Best New Restaurant.
While many of these partnerships exploit magazines brands to sell products Better Homes and Gardens has a line of curtains and cookware at Walmart, for example some are an attempt to get their magazines into the hands of new customers and potential subscribers.
Lands Ends botched promotion comes months after Sears spun off the retailer into an independent publicly traded company. (Sears acquired Lands End in 2002 for $1.9 billion.) As part of an effort to keep its brand fresh, Lands End has added a touch more stylishness to its more traditional merchandise in hopes of attracting younger shoppers. Glossy fashion magazines would seem to align with that ambition.
And while GQ is a long-respected voice on mens fashion and home to narrative journalism, the magazines image has evolved in recent years especially its covers. Until recently, the covers rarely featured women, instead opting for portraits of celebrities like Muhammad Ali or Sean Connery. But now, scantily clad women Jennifer Aniston, Kate Upton, Rihanna are routinely featured on its covers. Ms. Ratajkowski first gained notice in the music video for Robin Thickes hit song Blurred Lines; in October, she will appear in the film adaptation of the novel Gone Girl.
Many angry customers wondered why Lands End was not aware of GQs risqu photos and provocative content. In the future, we will work more closely to assess content to make sure it is aligned with our well-known, long-held company values and those of our customers, said Michele Casper, a company spokeswoman.
Several customers were dissatisfied with Lands Ends apology.
I think I was even more appalled at the excuse in the form of an apology that I was sent, one woman wrote on the Facebook page. That they meant it to be a gift to their male customers. That is absolutely disgusting and a major disrespect to your female customers. Those types of magazines are degrading and make women out to be objects. If that is the type of mind-set your marketing has on women, then I think that person needs to be fired.
A version of this article appears in print on August 14, 2014, on page B1 of the New York edition with the headline: Gift From Lands End Backfires.

Marin County Sheriffs confirmed Tuesday that Robin Williams personal assistant had discovered his gruesome death scene on Monday afternoon. Now, a joint investigation by RadarOnline.com and The National ENQUIRER can reveal that the individual who made the shocking find was Williams longtime confidante and friend, Rebecca Erwin Spencer.
Spencer, 57, was spotted at Williams Tiburon, Calif., home around 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning. She went into the house for a few minutes before someone in the house let her out of the garage and she left quickly, an eyewitness tells Radar.
She returned to her own home nearby around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and neighbors said she had been in and out of the property since Williamsdeath. Indeed, a Prius registered to her was seen multiple times at Williams home.
Though Spencer and her husband, Dan, are a private couple, according to neighbors, friends had gathered at her home in support on Tuesday, and others had left condolence notes and bouquets of flowers outside on her porch.

On Tuesday morning, Spencer posted a photo of Williams on one of his USO tours to her public Facebook account captioned What a time we had! Friends chimed in with messages of support.
You were the wind beneath his wings, a user named Auntie Kr wrote.
Tom Reilly chimed in, You were an amazing team. Truly.
And Louise Spotswood wrote, Rebecca you gave him so much that was great in his life. You did the best he could have asked for!
Williams himself tweeted about Spencer last January, when she snapped a photo of a play performance for him:
Their personal and professional relationship came to an untimely end on August 11. After Williams was unresponsive to knocks on his bedroom door, Spencer, was able to gain access to Mr. Williams bedroom and entered the bedroom to find Mr. Williams clothed in a seated position, unresponsive, with a belt secured around his neck with the other end of the belt wedged between the closed door and the door frame, Marin County Lieutenant Keith Boyd said Tuesday. He also had several superficial cuts on his left wrist and a bloody knife was found near his body.
Mr. Williams at that time was cool to the touch, with rigor mortis present in all of his extremities, and livor mortis positioned appropriately for the position he was located in, Boyd continued.
A distraught Spencer called 9-1-1 at roughly 11:55 a.m., and police arrived soon after to pronounce Williams dead.
Just a few days before, Williams had been seen battling his demons at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in San Francisco.

He was at a meeting on Saturday, AA member Argus Hamilton, 58, told the U.K.s Sun newspaper. He had got out of rehab and was sober at the meeting.
As Radar has reported, Williams was a presence at local AA meetings even earlier this year, before deciding to enter rehab at The Lodge at Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center in Minnesota this summer. Reps said at the time that he was looking to fine-tune his commitment to sobriety, amid what insiders told Radar were serious money troubles.
Lt. Boyd said in Tuesdays press conference that toxicology reports are expected back in five to six weeks.
